Embracing Historical Charm
Situated in the vibrant neighborhood of Vila Madalena, São Paulo, this 110m² apartment underwent a thoughtful redesign, focusing on its social area. Crafted by Memola Estúdio and Vitor Penha, the intervention aimed to infuse the space with a farmhouse-inspired ambiance, echoing historical architectural elements while exuding warmth and tranquility.
A Collaborative Vision
Commissioned by a Franco-Brazilian couple with two young children, the project stemmed from a previous collaboration between the clients and the architectural office. Initially engaged for consultancy on finishes and joinery for a farmhouse construction, the successful partnership led to the renovation of their São Paulo apartment.
Urban Farmhouse Aesthetic
The couple envisioned a functional yet rustic urban farmhouse style, characterized by delicate elements and seamless connectivity in the social area. The project embraced this vision, aligning with the residents’ desire for renovations in the service area, kitchen, and social spaces.
Revitalized Spaces
The apartment’s transformation commenced with the installation of a countryside-style entrance door, setting the tone for the family’s daily welcome. The removal of the ceiling revealed a stunning slab, revitalized to its former glory. A new lighting scheme illuminated the social area, enhancing its inviting ambiance while preserving the wooden flooring.
Thoughtfully Curated Interiors
Every detail in the social area was meticulously curated to blend romance and delicacy with the rustic charm of a country home. Custom-designed furniture, including a bookshelf, armchairs, and a dining table, harmonized with the overall aesthetic, complemented by punctual colors and fine details.
Culinary Delight
The kitchen emerged as the project’s focal point, undergoing a complete transformation to enhance functionality and aesthetics. The removal of a wall connecting the dining room and service area, along with the addition of a large frame, fostered seamless integration. The meticulously chosen flooring, featuring old tiles with flower designs, added elegance and charm, complemented by a rustic concrete countertop and light gray joinery.
Historical Accents
Historical elements were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the apartment, from tiles sourced from old demolitions adorning the powder room to a sink found in Minas Gerais, adding a touch of authenticity and character to the space.
Preserving Essence
Even the balcony floor, while revitalized, retained its historical essence, underscoring the project’s commitment to preserving the apartment’s history and charm amidst modern renovations.
In conclusion, the renovation of this São Paulo apartment exemplifies the seamless fusion of historical charm with contemporary design, creating a tranquil urban farmhouse retreat that exudes warmth, elegance, and timeless appeal.
